Dr (Mrs.) Anthonia Uche Umeh
National President/FounderDr. (Mrs.) Anthonia Uche Umeh is an alumnus of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with a degree in Industrial Chemistry; Howard University, College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Services, Washington, D.C with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.); and Harvard School of Public Health with a Certification in Health Care Project Management.
Dr. Umeh currently serves as the Pediatric Clinical Manager, Pharmacy Department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH) in Washington, DC. She serves as a member of various leadership committees at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Umeh showed initiative, creativity, and hard work in generating a quality improvement program to reduce medication errors in drug administration in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / Pediatrics. She was instrumental in putting together the clinical pharmacist program at the NICU/ Pediatrics and is being duplicated at other MedStar facilities. The physicians, nurses, and others in the NICU recognized her merit and honored her with the outstanding person of the year award in 2003. She was honored at MedStar Georgetown Star Magazine in March 2011 for providing Charity Care Across the Globe. Dr Umeh has authored and co-authored articles for publication.
Dr. Umeh is very passionate about Women’s health everywhere. Her interest in women’s health is reflected in the various leadership positions she has held, including, but not limited to President of Anambra State Association (ASA) DC, Women’s Wing; President of ASA Women of Washington D.C, Inc.; DSG/Chairwoman of the Igbo World Assembly (IWA) Women and Children and DSG/Chairwoman, Women Affairs of Council of Igbo States in the Americas.
She’s currently the Founder & General President of Anambra State Association, Women in USA, Inc., a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, headquartered in Maryland, USA and ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition in Nigeria, a registered non-governmental organization. Since inception in 2011, Dr Umeh and her team has partnered with many organizations & institutions in USA and in Anambra State, Nigeria during their humanitarian medical missions to Anambra state, Nigeria, which advanced breast & cervical cancer awareness, provides advocacy, education, screening, medical and surgical services to the underprivileged persons in Anambra State and donated diagnostic equipment to hospitals in Anambra State for sustainability of their programs. The team is currently embarking on their Legacy Project on Healthcare Access to Indigent Women in Nigeria.
Dr Umeh, is a recipient of numerous awards such as; International Community Service Leadership Award through Advocacy against Cancer by USAfrica; Igbo Diaspora Community Service Award by Nwannedinamba, USA; Honorary Award by Anambra State Government; Award of Merit; ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition Award of Project Partnership: Cancer Campion, Award of Philanthropy by Amichi Development Union Youth Wing; Award of Merit for Humaritarian Services to Mankind by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Nigeria Women Commission, Anambra State Council and An Appreciation Award by the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Culture & Tourism, Anambra State
