ANAMBRA State Association (ASA) Women in USA Incorporated, known as ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition has made her donations and cheque presentation of over 2 million Naira to various hospitals in Anambra State.

In a statement released to the press recently by the founder and National President of the Association, Dr (Mrs) Anthonia Uche Umeh (Adadioranma), the payment is on the heels of the hospital bills of the 2018 coordinated post ASA Women USA cancer and maternal health medical mission made to some selected hospitals in the state.

This includes surgical services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi , for  breast surgeries; General Hospital, Onitsha, for the cervical and gynaecological surgeries and St Charles Borromeo and Specialist Hospital, for the prostrate and hernia surgeries.

The donations and cheque presentation is  sequel to the fundraising during the May 18 Walk for Hope to End Cancer event in Maryland, USA.

During the cheque presentation, N894, 983.067  was presented to NAUTH on July 10, 2019 which was received by the Chief Medical Officer, Prof Anthony Igwegbe, who expressed his gratitude to the association for their thoughtfulness in fulfilling their obligations and pledges while reiterating the willingness of the hospital management to further encourage and do their best to see future projects of the ASA women.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the St Charles Borromeo and Specialist Hospital was the Chief Executive Officer, Rev Fr Izunna Okonkwo, who commended the association for their humanitarian gesture and further promised a continuous partnership with the group in future projects.

His words: ” May I use this opportunity to appreciate in a special way all members of ASA Women USA and their founder, Dr (Mrs) Uche Umeh who is unavoidably absent here but being represented by her amaible representatives.

“We appreciate them for having assisted a lot of patients from the state and even beyond to undertake medical treatment in various hospitals within the state…”

Leading the team of the grassroot arm of the association was the Nigerian Coordinator of the group, Mrs Onyinye Umenweke, who spoke shortly to journalists after the last day of the presentation, saying that visits to the various hospitals in the state was informed by the 2018 medical mission conducted in the state where several indigent patients diagnosed with life threatening ailments were billed to undergo surgeries in the selected hospitals.

According to her: “Our visits to these hospitals was to present these cheques on behalf of our founder, Dr (Mrs) Uche Umeh. This is medical bill for patients during our last year medical mission in Anambra State. We handed over the money to the hospital administration,” she offered.

On the plans to sustain the programme, she said: ” We carry out this medical mission every two years. We did it last year and we are going to do the same thing this year, precisely on the 30th of December, in Awka we will all converge again for the walk for hope to end cancer surge.”
